Artist's statement
This project focuses on the impact of marine plastic pollution on the ecological environment and marine life, and expresses the harm of plastic pollution through art, aiming to raise public awareness of environmental protection and prompt action. The work hopes to inspire more people to participate in environmental protection, reduce plastic use, and promote marine environmental protection.
The main materials of the installation are plastic bottles, blue and white hot glue, gelatin, tie-dye paint and stone clay. The design takes a whale struggling to jump out of the ocean as its theme, showing the serious crisis of plastic pollution for marine ecology. The movement of the whale symbolises marine life escaping from its polluted home, and the surrounding “wave” is composed of plastic bottles and waste.
This work was selected for a Silver Award by a judging panel of faculty from the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martins, Parsons, Yale and RISD.
