Artist's statement

My work examines humanity's future under the shadow of pollution, highlighting the profound damage to oceans and ecosystems and aiming to awaken those who are indifferent to environmental decay. The ongoing global arms race forms a perilous chain of escalation, and the potential leakage of nuclear weapons or armaments would have catastrophic consequences.

The sculpture shows the contrast and reflection between the polluted world and the clean world. I use a mirror to symbolise human introspection, conveying that even in isolation and deep infection, humans still long to be close to warmth, purity and sunlight. The little girl sees the future of humanity through her reflection in the mirror. Even though she is in a nuclear-contaminated environment, her heart still yearns for light, and she always maintains hope for the future. The little girl represents me, and every little creature around her was a childhood playmate who brought me comfort and companionship.

In front of the sculpture is a mirror, which shows two very different scenes: inside the mirror, the little girl sees a contaminated, apocalyptic landscape, while outside it, where she reaches out her hand, is the only oasis left on the planet, gradually mutated by the effects of nuclear contamination.
